Saputo recalls Neilson brand milk

DBR Staff Writer Published 30 January 2012

Saputo, a Canadian dairy company, has started recalling its Neilson Trutaste 2% Microfiltered Partly Skimmed Milk sold in four liter bags with expire date of 12 February 2012.

Saputo and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) have warned the public not to consume the milk as it may be contaminated with a cleaning solution.

Consuming the milk containing the cleaning solution may cause symptoms such as nausea, upset stomach or vomiting but the milk may not look or smell spoiled.

Both Saputo and CFIA are investigating how the cleaning solution got into a batch of milk at the company's facility. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

The affected products bear the UPC code 066800 00404 4 and the Best Before code 1590 FE12 H7 that appears on the bag closure tab. The product has been distributed in Ontario and in Aylmer, Quebec.

Saputo Communications director Sandy Vassiadis said the recall includes 80,000 liters, about one day's worth of production.

Saputo produces, markets and distributes an array of products including cheese, fluid milk, yogurt, dairy ingredients and snack-cakes.
