Indian liquor-maker wins trademark case

Tilaknagar Industries, an India-based manufacturer of alcoholic beverages, has received a favorable order from the Bombay High Court in a case related to trademarks ‘Mansion House’ and ‘Savoy Club'.

The Bombay High Court has dismissed a petition filed by UTO Nederland seeking to restrain Tilaknagar Industries from the use of the trademarks.

The company is 54% owned by the Dahanukar family with its main distillery operations in Shrirampur district of Maharashtra, India.

The company produces Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and owns brands including Mansion House Brandy, Madiraa Rum, Senate Royale Whiskey and White House Premium Whiskey.

Mansion House French Brandy is produced by using traditional matured grape brandies obtained from special Cognac pot stills. The brandy has a smooth but light and touch of smoke.

Mansion House Brandy boasts of a market share of 56% in Andhra Pradesh, 78% in Kerala, 97% in Karnataka, 42% in Tamilnadu, 78% in Pondicherry and almost 100% in Goa in its segment.
