Diageo to submit plan for €100m overhaul of Guinness brewery

DBR Staff Writer Published 16 December 2011

Global spirits and beer giant Diageo, the owner of Irish dry stout brand Guinness, will submit a planning application to Dublin City Council for a €100m makeover of its St James’s Gate Brewery in Ireland.

The company has finalized a plan for the 55-acre site that will see establishment of a new brewhouse on the northern side.

The plan also entails capacity expansion at the brewery, which currently produces Guinness for the Irish, British and US markets, to about 8 million hectoliters.

The Guinness brewhouse is currently located on the southern side of the campus, close to the Storehouse visitor center.

The redevelopment exercise includes modernization of the brewery and consolidation of its European brewing processes at the site.

If the plans receive approval, Diageo may begin construction work in early 2012.
